The Role As an Intern on the IP & Console Team within Tesla’s Vehicle Engineering Group, you’ll support the design, release and launch of interior systems for current model production programs and gain hands-on exposure to future vehicle product lines. You’ll work alongside a high-performing, agile team of automotive engineers focused on delivering world-class interiors — where form, function, and craftsmanship come together. This is an internship opportunity with strong potential for full-time conversion. High-performing interns are actively considered for permanent roles upon graduation. We welcome applications from students graduating in 2027 who are eager to grow with Tesla and help shape the future of vehicle interiors. You’ll contribute to key areas such as: Supporting early surface development (Class A) reviews to ensure fit, finish, functionality, durability, and manufacturability Assisting in end-to-end design and development of IP and console kinematic components (e.g., armrest hinges, glove box mechanisms, air vents, sliding doors) Learning to balance design excellence with cost, weight, and production feasibility Collaborating with the Design & Styling Studio to understand the trade-offs between aesthetics, usability, and engineering constraints Gaining experience in DFSS methodologies, CAE simulation interpretation, and design validation processes Supporting validation planning and execution for interior components, including coordination with suppliers and testing teams Participating in jig/fixture review and development activities Analyzing field reliability data to identify improvement opportunities Engaging with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing Engineering, Procurement, and Reliability to support system integration and build events We’re looking for candidates who: Are currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Robotics (FSAE experiences highly preferred), with expected graduation in 2027 Have foundational experience in 3D modeling (e.g., CATIA V5), even at a project or academic level Show strong interest in automotive interior systems, mechanisms, or product development Are proficient in English (written and spoken), with the ability to read technical documentation and participate in team discussions Demonstrate curiosity, problem-solving skills, and a proactive mindset This job application may involve an interview with an interviewer outside of Tesla China.
