Position overview
AstraZeneca China Oncology is seeking an intern to support the Oncology New Assets Unit with desktop research, scientific literature review, and competitive analysis to inform asset strategy and decision-making. This role provides exposure to oncology pipeline evaluation, competitor landscape monitoring, and cross-functional project support.
Key Responsibilities
• Desktop research & intelligence gathering: Conduct structured searches across public sources (scientific publications, congress materials, company disclosures, clinical trial registries, guidelines, and news) to identify and track oncology assets, mechanisms, targets, and development strategies.
• Literature review & synthesis: Perform rapid and deep-dive reviews on oncology biology, therapeutic modalities (e.g., antibodies, ADCs, cell therapy, small molecules), biomarkers, and clinical data; summarize key findings clearly for internal stakeholders.
• Competitive analysis support: Contribute to competitor and pipeline benchmarking (e.g., differentiation, trial design, endpoints, patient population, combination strategies), and support development of internal competitive readouts and slides.
• Insight packaging & communication: Translate complex scientific and clinical information into concise briefs, tables, and presentations with clear logic, citations, and implications.
• Project and team support: Assist with meeting preparation, minutes, action tracking, and coordination of inputs across stakeholders for ongoing research or project workstreams.
• Ad hoc analytics/research: Support additional requests from the Oncology New Assets team, such as building reference libraries, maintaining trackers, or preparing backgrounders for internal discussions.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Education: Preferred PhD candidate or PhD in biopharma, life sciences, oncology, pharmacology, immunology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, or related healthcare sciences (strong Master’s candidates with relevant experience may also be considered).
• Scientific capability: Strong ability to read and interpret oncology biology and clinical trial data, including endpoints and trial design elements.
• Research skills: Demonstrated experience with literature searching, evidence synthesis, and structured analysis; familiarity with common public data sources (e.g., PubMed and major congress outputs) is a plus.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to produce clear summaries and well-structured slides with proper referencing.
• Analytical mindset: Comfortable comparing datasets and drawing reasoned conclusions; attention to detail and high standards for accuracy.
• Ways of working: Proactive, reliable, and able to manage multiple tasks under timelines; strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
• Language: Proficiency in English (reading/writing) required; Chinese proficiency is strongly preferred for local market scanning and communication.
Preferred Attributes
• Exposure to competitive intelligence, strategy, consulting, venture/BD, or pipeline/asset evaluation.
• Familiarity with clinical development phases, translational medicine concepts, or biomarker-driven oncology.
• Strong PowerPoint and Excel skills (e.g., building trackers, summarizing evidence in structured formats).
